App privacy policy
Effective 23 September 2026. Blubb is operated by Duanmu Chuanjie under the Papillon Labs name. Questions and privacy requests: [email protected].
What stays on your device
Blubb stores imported books and papers, extracted text, scans, reading position, highlights, notes, listening preferences, generated narration, and local diagnostics in the app's storage on your device. Reading, text extraction, and speech generation run on the device. Blubb has no account and does not send your library to a Papillon Labs server. We do not use app analytics, advertising trackers, or your content to train AI models.
iCloud library sync is under development and is not available in this version. Your device's own backup settings may include app data in Apple-managed backups. Device backups are controlled by your Apple settings, not by Blubb.
When a network connection is used
If you choose to load a formatted edition of a public arXiv paper, Blubb requests that paper's HTML and graphics directly from arxiv.org over HTTPS and saves a local copy. arXiv can receive the paper identifier, standard request information such as your IP address, and the time of the request under its own privacy policy. Blubb does not upload your original PDF, notes, or reading history to arXiv. Opening external links or this policy also contacts the destination site.
Permissions and sharing
Blubb accesses files you select for import. Its document scanner uses the camera only when you start a scan; scanned pages are processed and stored on your device. If you choose to export an audiobook, share a note, or export diagnostics or a library snapshot, the receiving app or service handles the copy you send under its own terms. Diagnostic exports are started by you and can contain technical information; review them before sharing.
Retention, deletion, and security
Your library stays on your device until you delete a book or remove the app. Deleting a book removes its app-managed source, reading data, notes, and generated audio. Copies you separately exported, files held by another app, and device backups must be managed there. You can clear local diagnostics in the app. If you email us for support, we receive your email and any information you choose to include; we use it to answer your request and retain it only as needed for that purpose or legal obligations. Ask us to delete a support conversation at the address above.
Blubb uses Apple's app sandbox and device data protection for local files and HTTPS for optional network requests. A device passcode and current system software help protect stored content. No security measure is absolute.
Website data and changes
This policy covers the Blubb app. The separate Papillon Labs website privacy note explains its optional launch waitlist. We will update this page if app data practices change, with the effective date shown above. You can contact us at [email protected] about access, correction, or deletion of information you sent us.
